The IBA’27 as a driving force for the future of Weissenhof 2027+
THE IBA’27 AS A DRIVING FORCE FOR THE FUTURE OF WEISSENHOF 2027+
Lecture by Dr. Raquel Jaureguízar with impulses from Verena Lebherz and Pastor Karl-Eugen Fischer
In 2027, the Weissenhof Estate is set to shine, when it celebrates its 100th birthday. The anniversary will also mark the exhibition year of the International Building Exhibition 2027 StadtRegion Stuttgart and Weissenhof will be the central arrival point for visitors. Thanks to the intensive commitment of the association Freunde der Weissenhofsiedlung e.V., the City of Stuttgart and the IBA’27, it is now foreseeable that two important building blocks for the further development and renewal of the estate and its surroundings will be brought to life by 2027. The outstanding designs for the Weissenhof.Forum and the Brenzkirche tie in with the eventful history of the site as well as the ideas of modernism and at the same time provide new answers to the ecological, economic and social questions of our time.
The event will be opened with a welcome speech by the President of the State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg, Muhterem Aras MdL:
“IBA’27 shows how architecture, urban development and democratic participation can work together. The fact that the Weissenhof Estate, of all places, is becoming a laboratory for the future as a place of building culture and modernity is a strong sign: for innovation in existing buildings, for ecological responsibility – and for the open, diverse urban society of tomorrow.” – Muhterem Aras MdL, President of the State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg
Afterwards, the architect and project manager of IBA’27, Dr. Raquel Jaureguízar, will explain the topics and the process in the Weissenhof Quarter until 2027(+) in her lecture “IBA’27 as a driving force for the future of Weissenhof 2027+” and the two new IBA’27 projects, the Weissenhof. Forum and the Brenzkirche, together with Verena Lebherz, deputy director of the Weissenhof Museum and representative of the Weissenhof.Forum planning team, and Pastor Karl-Eugen Fischer.
